Grandpa has gone home

Today, grandpa and Grandma Barb left to fly back to America. Hopefully we will see them again in the summer once we are settled in Arizona. We heard from daddy too and he already misses Sam (and me lol) alot. He seems to be having a rather stressful time at his *secret location*. Sam is starting to smile, but so far its only at his daddy, my mum took the picture on the left which *almost* shows him smiling at me!!

Daddy leaves tomorrow :-(

Today is our last day with daddy before he leaves for a whole month :-( Sam and I are sad. Sam will be sooo much bigger when he gets back. Bryan leave tomorrow morning (early). We will go and see him off and then wish the time away until he gets back. We're off out to dinner tonight with Sams grandpa and grandma, my mum and steve, harriet and Bryan-a big family event (I hope Sam stays asleep lol)

A whole month old

On Friday the 21st Sam was a whole month old. I just can't believe how fast time has flown by! it really has gone so fast! On his 1 month 'birthday' Sam smiled at his daddy. I thought it was just gas but we tested him and everytime Bryan made silly faces at Sam he had a big grin on his little face!! it was so wonderful. I have *tried* to get him to smile at me too...but no such luck. It would seem only daddy has a funny face!!

Busy, busy, busy

What a busy weekend!! On Saturday we went into Cambridge and took Cindi to see the colleges and then to eat at Nandos. The 1st picture above shows Sam asleep on the table at Nandos in Bryans coat (haha). Today we went to the seaside (to Cromer and Wells) it would have been great but the rain and wind made things a bit wet, rushed and miserable :( Sam was still such a good boy though, he slept in his car seat for most of the time or is in the sling agaist Daddys chest :-) We got home in time for cuddles with Grandma (2nd picture) xx

Grandma is here

Yesterday Sams grandma arrived all the way from Ohio, USA. It was soooo lovely to see her. This week we will be really spoiling her and showing her all things Englishy :) Sam has been a good boy as usual. Today we went for a drive around the countryside, to a garden centre and then to Saffron Walden for some lunch and he slept pretty much the whole time!!

Monday, 10 March 2008

Sam failed his 1st hearing test when we were in the hospital, due to amniotic fluid being in his little ears so we had to go for a repeat test. Bryan took us to the health center and they put tiny things in his ears while he was sleeping and bounced an 'impulse' off of his cochlear, he passed with flying colours this time :)

Sam video

I know this is VERY short, but it is my first attempt at uploading a video!! And yes, it's sideways too haha!! This is Sam at 2 weeks old ready for his dinner (note the bib! made out of bounty towel!)

Kellie came to visit yesterday to see baby Sam and her two children Sammie and Alex came too (they are very sweet children!)

Samuel is still doing really well and im pretty sure he must be back up to his birth weight now, he gets weighed on Wednesday when the nasty health visitor comes so we will see then how much of a chunky monkey he has become. Yesterday he managed to put away over 24 oz of milk!!! thats a lot for a little boy!!

Daddy and Sam

last 2 weeks

Quick re-cap: Sam lost alot of weight due to lazy sucking and a poor latch. I started expressing milk and giving it to him in a bottle and he then gained 7oz in 4days. As of yesterday (6th March) he is back up to 7lb 12oz. Still not up to his birth weight but on the right track.

He is such a good baby, very content and rarely cries. He would sleep right through the night too but to get his weight back up I have been waking him at 3:30am to feed.

He LOVES cuddles and kisses and looking around. He seems to enjoy anything black and white and stares at the black and white baby book my mum got him for ages!!

1st post

OK, so Sam is now 2 weeks old but since this is my 1st post I will re-cap the last 2 weeks:

I suppose I should start with my labour, it was hard work. I went into the hospital on the Monday due to some slight bleeding. Bryan came home from work and took me into the 'Maternal/fetal assessment unit' and we were monitered for 45minutes. The moniter showed Sam was fine but I was contracting every 5-7 minutes and I hadn't even realised. They examined me and I was 2cm dilated. I was sent home and told labor would probably start within the next few days. To cut a long story short of the next 48 hours I went back in twice ahaha!! each time I was told I wasn't in enough pain and to come back later. By Wednesday the 20th during the evening/night the pain was TERRIBLE really awful, hideous unescribable pain. I was being sick into a bin (nice) and making all kinds of strange noises! Bryan was at a loss as to what he should do, by 1:30 am he called the delivery unit, I was in too much pain to talk. They told us to come in. By the time we got there (2:30am) I was 9cm dilated and it was too late for pain relief! I had a LOVELY midwife who assured me everything would be OK and my baby would be here soon. My waters then broke with a massive 'pop' and splashed over EVERYTHING (including poor Bryan) and after just 38 minutes of pushing Samuel Casey Brown was born, the feeling was like nothing else on Earth, he was here and he was alright the relief was immense and the feeling of love that swept over me was crazy! I promptly asked the midwife 'does he have a face?' yes, i think the pain had melted part of my brain ahaha...her relpy was 'yes Sophie, he has a lovely little face'

We stayed in the hospital while they stitched me and checked Sam, he was weighed and we were left with our new son ...to 'bond'.
